Eagle Update

Indian Hills Elementary

Three young people work together in a garden bed, using small tools.
Dear Eagles,

Friday, our 3rd-grade classes planted bulbs in the planters on our front and back patios. I can’t wait to see them bloom in the spring!

Congratulations to our K–3 students for their participation in STEAM Fest! While there were many incredible things to see, my favorite moment was watching our 6th graders serve as judges. Their professionalism shone as they asked thoughtful questions and encouraged the younger students — as Henry F. reminded a 3rd grader, “Science and art should be fun!”

A huge thank-you to our Resident Scientist, Kristen Bonner, for supporting our youngest learners with their projects and preparing our oldest learners to lead such meaningful conversations.

Each year, schools across the country participate in Red Ribbon Week — a time to come together in creative ways to talk about healthy choices, including avoiding drugs, promoting emotional well-being, and strengthening our sense of connection and care. Our PTO has planned some wonderful activities to help us celebrate and connect as a community dedicated to ensuring safety, belonging, and dignity for every member of our school.

See you soon!

Warmly,
Dr. Pettersson

Indian Hills, are you ready for Red Ribbon Week & Halloween!?

I am excited to participate in the activities that our amazing PTO has scheduled in the cafeteria during lunchtime. We also have some fun activities we’ll be doing during SEL.

I will be facilitating SEL lessons with the upper grades:

3rd & 4th Grade – Glad Libs : Describe examples of people, places, and things that make us feel emotions
5th Grade – The Me List: Identify and share our personal learning needs. Discuss how family members, friends, teachers, or other trusted adults can support us in positive ways.
6th Grade - “Hanging Out in the Corner”: Demonstrate respect for differences and similarities between social and cultural groups.

Have a great week Eagles!

IMPACT EAGLES: Winter Outerwear Drive & Swap

Our Impact Eagles are hosting a Winter Outerwear Drive and Swap to help our community stay warm this season!

We’re collecting gently used coats, hats, gloves, boots, and snow pants from October 22–29.
Families are invited to browse and swap items on October 31 while they’re at school for Halloween festivities.

Anything left after the event will be donated to a local charity.

Questions? Contact Ms. Hunt through ParentSquare.

Halloween Parade

Halloween Parade | October 31st, 12:30pm
It's time for our annual halloween parade. Families and friends are invited and encouraged to watch and celebrate with us anywhere along the outside parade route.

The parade begins at 12:30 pm and students will come out the front doors and travel up Nottingham to Roxbury and then back onto school grounds.

Please make note of some important costume reminders to make things go smoothly:
  • Students will need to navigate stairs, and a fair amount of walking. Please be cautious of floor length or flowing costumes.
  • Students must wear footwear appropriate for walking, inside and outside.
  • No weapons or lookalike weapons.
  • Avoid costumes that depict stereotypes, or are culturally insensitive - culture is not a costume.
  • Be sensitive to younger students, and avoid overly scary costumes with excessive blood and gore.
