Eagle Update

Indian Hills Elementary

Dear Eagles,

Welcome back on Tuesday! We hope your fall break brought you some well-deserved rest and a bit of fall magic.

Third grade marks one of the most important transitions in a child’s learning journey—the year students move from learning to read to reading to learn. We’re proud to share that Indian Hills is among a small number of elementary schools in the state where more than 70% of our 3rd-grade students are reading at or above grade level.

We are also thrilled to announce that the Utah State Board of Education will be honoring our 3rd-grade team as a leader in implementing the Science of Reading.

This recognition truly belongs to our students, families, and teachers, whose dedication to growing reading skills throughout the year—and year over year—sets our Eagles up to soar as they take on more advanced learning in the upper grades.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us in supporting each and every child’s growth and success. Together, we’re building confident readers and lifelong learners—one page at a time.

Yours in the work,
Dr. Pettersson

IMPACT EAGLES: Winter Outerwear Drive & Swap

Our Impact Eagles are hosting a Winter Outerwear Drive and Swap to help our community stay warm this season!

We’re collecting gently used coats, hats, gloves, boots, and snow pants from October 22–29.
Families are invited to browse and swap items on October 31 while they’re at school for Halloween festivities.

Anything left after the event will be donated to a local charity.

Questions? Contact Ms. Hunt through ParentSquare.

Halloween Parade

Halloween Parade | October 31st, 12:30pm
It's time for our annual halloween parade. Families and friends are invited and encouraged to watch and celebrate with us anywhere along the outside parade route.

The parade begins at 12:30 pm and students will come out the front doors and travel up Nottingham to Roxbury and then back onto school grounds.

Please make note of some important costume reminders to make things go smoothly:
  • Students will need to navigate stairs, and a fair amount of walking. Please be cautious of floor length or flowing costumes.
  • Students must wear footwear appropriate for walking, inside and outside.
  • No weapons or lookalike weapons.
  • Avoid costumes that depict stereotypes, or are culturally insensitive - culture is not a costume.
  • Be sensitive to younger students, and avoid overly scary costumes with excessive blood and gore.

Counselor's Corner
Welcome back from Fall Break!

It was amazing to check in with the upper grades this past week and hear about all the different kinds of fun and restful adventures our community took part in over break. This week I’ll be working with the lower-grades on SEL this week, here is a look at what we’ll be doing:

Kindergarten: Emotional Building Blocks (Angry & Excited): Identify and explore the Emotional Building Block, “angry” & “excited”. Describe examples of people, places and things that make us feel these two emotions.
1st –2nd Grade: Move the Needle – Define our needs and wants. Identify examples of needs and wants that we see in our day to day lives. Identify how our reactions might be similar or different depending on if we don't get something we need versus if we don't get something we want.
