Counselor’s Corner
The last two weeks, here we go! It was my last week of SEL with the upper grades this week, which was bittersweet. On one hand, I am so proud of the growth they have made over the year, but I was also saying goodbye to our 6th graders who will be going to various middle schools next year. This week, I’ll be working with the lower grades and rehearsing some songs with the kindergarten, which is always a blast with Mrs. Siebert and Mr. Monteiro. Here’s a look at the lessons we’ll be doing this week:
- Kindergarten – The Big Mess: "Identify how using a growth mindset can help us respond to challenges. Describe a growth mindset.
- 1st Grade – Give Me the Ball: Define kindness. Understand the impact it has on ourselves and others. Describe appropriate ways to let other people know they are important to us and that we care about them. Explain why it's important to let other people know we care about them.
- 2nd Grade – Crossing Guard: Practice controlling our impulses.
- 3rd Grade – Hot Potato: Explain how active listening prepares us to respond respectfully. Identify and practice expressing our emotions.
Upcoming Items
Field Day
Field Day 5/28: Please send your student with clothes and shoes that can get wet and not easily slip off, a towel, sunscreen (applied ahead of time), and water bottle. Swimsuit and change of clothes are optional. Parent volunteers are needed to help with water games and lunch!
*Also, that day, all students will eat outside in the courtyard, and sack lunches will be provided for school lunches for those who are getting them. The menu that day is slightly changed to: EZ Jammer sandwiches, chips, apple, cookie, string cheese, mini carrots with ranch, and milk.
May 29th, Last Day of School Students dismissed at 1PM (Please note this a Thursday, a Short Day, and no school on Friday).
-8:30 Sixth Grade Promotion,
- In an effort to avoid conflicting overlap with Clayton's 8th grade promotion, we are hoping to start our clap-out and 6th grade promotion a bit earlier. We would like to start the clap-out shortly after the bell/attendance, around 8:05-8:10am, so that the 6th grade promotion can start and finish earlier. Just make a note of that small change to the schedule. Sixth grade Dance Party in the gym, and 12:50 school-wide Flag Lowering at the front of the building
Report cards
Report cards will be mailed home. On your student's report card, your student's teacher for the 2025-26 school year will be listed on it. Class lists are the result of extensive input and work from our faculty. We have done our best to assign students to a class in which they will be successful. We have attempted to be sensitive to the individual needs of over 475 students. Because of the challenging dynamics of building class lists, no changes will be made after August 1st and through the first two weeks of school. If before or after these dates, any concerns need to be resolved, please check in with me. Grade level assignments, changes and additions for teachers are attached here. Thank you for your help and support. We are looking forward to another great year!
Mailing Addresses
Because we are mailing report cards home this year, it is extremely important that we have current and accurate mailing addresses for all families. If you have moved, or any of your information has changed this year, please reach out to the office to make sure we have the most updated information for your families.
For the Upcoming 2025-26 School Year
We would like to introduce and welcome the newest faculty members to our team who will start with us in August.
Amber Callister
Amber Callister is the new English Language Development (ELD) and Intervention Teacher at Indian Hills Elementary. This is her 15th year in SLCSD. She taught second grade for 8 years at Beacon Heights and North Star Elementary, taught reading intervention at Whittier Elementary and has worked as a new teacher instructional coach (PAR). She is so excited to be joining the team at Indian Hills and thinks this is the most beautiful school in Salt Lake City! For fun, Amber enjoys skiing at Snowbird, riding her mountain bike (really slowly), and a good yoga session. She, her husband Brady, and their Bernedoodle Winnie are expecting their first baby this summer (a boy!)
Mary Keck
Hello! My name is Mary Keck, and I’m excited to be joining the Indian Hills community as a 4th grade neighborhood classroom teacher. This will be my 9th year of teaching and my 7th year in 4th grade, a grade I truly love. I’m coming from Franklin Elementary and I’m excited to continue my journey within SLCSD. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy snowboarding, exploring the outdoors, playing soccer, and spending time with my dogs. I love all things mermaids and unicorns, and I am passionate about bringing creativity and imagination into learning. I’m looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing with students and families!
Eric Holmes
Hello! My name is Eric Holmes and I am very excited to join the community teaching 4th grade magnet at Indian Hills. Most recently, I have been teaching 4th and 5th grade at Newman Elementary. Before that I was a teacher and principal in several other districts but have returned to kids in the classroom... which has always been my favorite job in education. I look forward to getting to know everyone at Indian Hills. Go Eagles!
