Kindergarten Drop-Off: A Quick Goodbye Helps!
We know that saying goodbye at the beginning of the school day can be hard; sometimes for our kindergarteners and their grown-ups!
As our youngest Eagles settle into their school routines, we need your help making morning drop-off as smooth and predictable as possible.
Beginning tomorrow morning, we are asking Kindergarten families to say goodbye at the gate rather than coming onto the playground or lingering near the Kindergarten doors.
Our teachers and staff will be there to welcome students and help them get where they need to go.
For children who are having a tough time separating, a short, confident, and cheerful goodbye is usually the most helpful approach. Lingering can unintentionally communicate to a child that there is something to worry about and can make the eventual separation even harder.
A few tips that can help:

Create a simple goodbye routine: a hug, a high five, an “I love you & have a great day!” and then head out.

Keep your own demeanor positive and confident, even if your child is upset. Your confidence tells them, “You are safe here, and I know you can do this.”

Consider arranging playdates with classmates or having your child walk through the gate with a friend. Familiar faces can make arriving at school much easier.

Make mornings predictable. Consistent wake-up, breakfast, and departure routines help children know what to expect.

Prioritize plenty of sleep. Well-rested children are better equipped to manage big feelings, transitions, and the demands of a busy Kindergarten day.
- Most importantly, trust us to take it from there. Tears at the gate don't necessarily mean tears all morning. Children often recover remarkably quickly once they join their classmates and become engaged in the school day.
We know walking away when your little one is upset can tug at your heart. Our Kindergarten team will greet them with warmth, help them through the transition, and reach out if there is a concern that requires your attention.
