Eagle Update

Indian Hills Elementary

Dear Families,

WE DID IT! We WON the January attendance competition with our dear neighbors to the west (Bonneville). Thank you for getting your students here, on time, and ready to learn!

  • Our students will get extra recess on Thursday.
  • Watch for a video of Bonneville educators and students in IHE gear engaging in our KA-KAW for Eagles!

This month, we are engaging in a friendly competition amongst grade-levels to keep our lunchroom welcoming, safe, and clean. Each day, we will select a winning grade based on how students entered the room, demonstrated fantastic table manners (including a welcoming approach to each and every student), and cleaned up when excused.

Check out or latest installment of "LIVE FROM INDIAN HILLS" to get a peek into our lunchroom goals: Live From the Lunchroom - TRASH.mp4

Have a great week!

What an incredible week! Closing it out with the incredible 2nd graders rocking the stage with their performance. Big shout-out to the parent volunteers (in particular, Kim Caine and Kristin Starkie) and Mr. Monteiro for putting that show together. Those assemblies are powerful reminders of the community we’re building here.

Below is a quick breakdown of what we’ll be working on during SEL this week with the upper grades:

  • 3rd Grade – Deep Freeze: Describe ways we can identify how other people are
  • feeling via body language, active listening, facial expression, etc.
  • Identify and describe how others are feeling.
  • 4th & 5th Grade – Clap Town: Demonstrate the ability to actively listen to others.
  • Explain how active listening prepares us to respond respectfully.
  • 6th Grade - “The Pendulum”: Analyze positive and negative consequences of expressing our emotions in different settings.

Art Cards Fundraiser

Your student's art on notecards!

Please help us raise funds for the incredible programs at Indian Hills Elementary by purchasing your child's artwork on stationery! Your child’s art will be printed on 4x6 cards and will include envelopes. Handcrafted, personalized stationery is a great gift for loved ones or to use for yourself, especially as you and your child are sending Valentines! All cards will be sent home with your student by Friday, February 13th.

Did you know that our ART and SCIENCE opportunities are unique to Indian Hills and are not offered in other schools in the district? In addition to the standard curriculum, our students receive weekly art classes, weekly music lessons, and extra hands-on-science labs thanks to the support received through the Parent Teacher Organization, which is 100% funded by generous families like you!

Your support ensures well-rounded experiences and outstanding enrichment for each of our students!

Thank you for your investment in our school!

School of Choice: Early Open Enrollment Ends on February 6th!

The window for Early Open Enrollment Applications for the 2026-2027 school year is now open!

In Utah, families have a choice in where their students attend school. Utah law allows families and their students to apply to attend a school even if it is outside of their neighborhood. If you have friends or family members who may be interested in attending Indian Hills but do not live within our boundaries, please feel free to share the information below:

Apply Here:

2025–2026 Open Enrollment Timeline

  • November 15, 2025 – February 6, 2026: Early Open Enrollment Applications submitted online
  • February 7, 2026: School administrators gain access to submitted applications
  • March 15, 2026: Deadline for principals to notify parents in writing of Early Open Enrollment application status
  • March 31, 2026: Deadline for parents to accept or decline Early Open Enrollment opportunities
  • April 1, 2026 – start of next school year: Late Open Enrollment Applications may be submitted

SLC School District Open Enrollment Priorities
Applications are reviewed and accepted according to the following priority order:
  1. The student has a sibling currently attending the requested school
  2. The student has a parent who is a district employee
  3. The student is a SLCSD resident
  4. The student resides outside the SLCSD boundaries
Students will be accepted into schools with available space according to their assigned priority. If multiple students share the same priority, a lottery will be used to determine the order of acceptance.

Winter Safety

It takes all of us to keep students safe, especially in cold weather with icy road conditions. Last week, many adults failed to follow our parking lot rules. Please note the following:
  • No U-turns are permitted on school property. All traffic must turn right before reaching the bike lockers.
  • The faculty parking access road (St Marys Drive) on the north side of the building is for staff only—please do not use this road if you are not a faculty member.
Additional reminders:
  • Our campus is landlocked, with one road in and out of the parking lot.
  • This road is relatively steep and can be difficult to navigate in snowy or icy conditions.
  • If your vehicle does not have all-wheel drive, please consider dropping off and picking up your student(s) on Wasatch Blvd. or at one of the nearby access paths (Roxbury, Nottingham, or Beacon).

Feedback Helps Us Be Our Best!

If you have feeback for us, please share it.

This goes directly to Dr. Pettersson, only. You can choose to have her share it with others or keep it confidential.
