Eagle Update

Indian Hills Elementary

An eagle mascot crosses the finish line with a checkered flag and red ribbon, winning a race.
Dear Families,

Wahoo! Indian Hills won the first week of our attendance competition with our neighbors to the west, Bonneville. Let’s keep up the momentum and win week two as well!

Science Fair – 4th–6th Grade Families:
Students must be registered by the end of today (Sunday) in order to participate in the Science Fair. You’ll find the registration link below. Please note that the form requires a trusted grown-up’s email address. Science Fair Registration Form.

Speaking of the Science Fair, we still need volunteer judges. If you are interested, please sign up HERE —we would greatly appreciate your support.

Finally, a special thank-you to the families who consistently follow our parking lot procedures and to our brave 6th graders who serve on the Safety Patrol. With winter snow and ice, I worry a lot about safety during pick-up and drop-off; last week, the school my own children attend had a pedestrian struck by a car before school. Thanks to your care and cooperation, Indian Hills students have been safe, and the process has been as smooth as possible. THANK YOU

Warm regards,
Dr. Pettersson

Attendance Challenge: Eagles v. Bobcats

The goal is for each class to have 95% or higher attendance each day. Last week, Grades K, 1, 2, 3, & 4 met this goal. Those grades will get an extra 10-minutes of recess on Thursday!

We appreciate all that you are doing to get your students here at school on-time and ready to learn! Let's beat the Bonneville Bobcats again this week - week 2 of the challenge!

We are off to a wonderful start to 2026 at Indian Hills! It has been such a joy hearing students share stories about their winter break adventures and time with family and friends.

This week in SEL, our lower grades will focus on building community, empathy, and teamwork by participating in a meaningful service project led by our fantastic PTO—creating quilted blankets for donation to Primary Children’s Hospital.

Through this experience, students will see how coming together can bring comfort and care to others. If you would like to volunteer and help during this meaingful activity, the link is below in the PTO section of this Eagle Update.

PTO @ Indian Hills

Dear families:

During the month of January, students will use their SEL time with Counselor Chris to cut and tie fleece blankets as a service project. The completed blankets will be donated to Primary Children’s Hospital. We would love volunteers to come and help as students tie the quilts.

Check out the Sign-Up Link if you are able to help out. Please note that 3-6th grade will be participating in their "specials" groups, so if you would like to help with your child's group, please check with them about which group they are in.

Have a great week!

Winter Safety

It takes all of us to keep students safe, especially in cold weather with icy road conditions. Last week, many adults failed to follow our parking lot rules. Please note the following:
  • No U-turns are permitted on school property. All traffic must turn right before reaching the bike lockers.
  • The faculty parking access road (St Marys Drive) on the north side of the building is for staff only—please do not use this road if you are not a faculty member.
Additional reminders:
  • Our campus is landlocked, with one road in and out of the parking lot.
  • This road is relatively steep and can be difficult to navigate in snowy or icy conditions.
  • If your vehicle does not have all-wheel drive, please consider dropping off and picking up your student(s) on Wasatch Blvd. or at one of the nearby access paths (Roxbury, Nottingham, or Beacon).

School Community Council

Each month our School Community Council (SCC) meets to fulfill the duties outlined in Utah Code § 53G-7-1202:
  • Create the annual School LAND Trust Plan
  • Review and make recommendations for the safety plans, including safe access routes
  • Plan for safe technology utilization and digital citizenship
  • Provide feedback about school and district programs
  • Provide input on the school's positive behavior support plan
Chaired by Phong Nguyen, the SCC strives to include representation from 7 areas. We currently have an opening for a representative who has a student on permit at our school - if you are interested, please reach out to Mr. Nguyen or Dr. Pettersson

Speaking of Permits: Open Enrollment

The window for Early Open Enrollment Applications for the 2026-2027 school year is now open!

In Utah, families have a choice in where their students attend school. Utah law allows families and their students to apply to attend a school even if it is outside of their neighborhood. If you have friends or family members who may be interested in attending Indian Hills but do not live within our boundaries, please feel free to share the information below:

Apply Here:

2025–2026 Open Enrollment Timeline

  • November 15, 2025 – February 6, 2026: Early Open Enrollment Applications submitted online
  • February 7, 2026: School administrators gain access to submitted applications
  • March 15, 2026: Deadline for principals to notify parents in writing of Early Open Enrollment application status
  • March 31, 2026: Deadline for parents to accept or decline Early Open Enrollment opportunities
  • April 1, 2026 – start of next school year: Late Open Enrollment Applications may be submitted

SLC School District Open Enrollment Priorities
Applications are reviewed and accepted according to the following priority order:
  1. The student has a sibling currently attending the requested school
  2. The student has a parent who is a district employee
  3. The student is a SLCSD resident
  4. The student resides outside the SLCSD boundaries
Students will be accepted into schools with available space according to their assigned priority. If multiple students share the same priority, a lottery will be used to determine the order of acceptance.

Feedback Helps Us Be Our Best!

If you have feeback for us, please share it.

This goes directly to Dr. Pettersson, only. You can choose to have her share it with others or keep it confidential.
