About Me

I was born and raised in Ada, Oklahoma. My mother was a registered nurse and my father owns and operates a furniture store in that very town. I received my Bachelors of Science in Education from East Central University and I currently hold teaching certifications in Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah.

I began my teaching career in the great state of Texas at Barber Middle School in Dickinson, TX (south of Houston). During my time at BMS, I was the language arts lead teacher, 5th grade lead teacher (over 6 other teachers), helped create district language arts curriculum, and was a nominee for Teacher of the Year.  I later moved to the prestigious Barbara Bush Elementary located in Houston, TX. While teaching at Bush Elementary I team taught with 2 other teachers and collaborated on various lesson plans for our 3rd grade students. I took a brief break from teaching to stay home with my two children; Brody, 5 and Kirby, 3. During this “break” I could not stay away from teaching others and worked part time for the YMCA in Austin, TX. While working at the YMCA I was the lead instructor for the 3-5 year old programs and assistant to the youth and family director. After working for the YMCA, my family moved back to Oklahoma were I was able to return to the classroom fulltime at Washington Elementary. While teaching at Washington, I wrote district curriculum maps, helped realign existing curriculum to Common Core Standards, was the campus technology liaison, spoke at Oklahoma Technology Association’s Annual Technology Conference and was a nominee for Teacher of the Year. In 2014, I moved to Salt Lake City and began teaching at Indian Hills Elementary in a 3rd grade classroom. Last year, my students achieved 100% accuracy in Language Arts and 91% accuracy in Mathematics.

It is hard for me to believe that the 2015-2016 school year is my 8th year teaching.  I’m excited to be teaching 4th grade and to have my oldest child, Brody here at the school in Ms. Kinneberg’s kindergarten classroom.  I love spending time with my family, fly fishing, CrossFit, cooking, and seeing all the wonderful activities Utah has to offer.
